Disease Task Forces

FinnGen Steering Committee has prioritised about 10 disease areas and established so-called Disease Task Forces. These Task Forces bring together expertise from Finnish academia and FinnGen industry partners.

One of the main focuses in the third phase of FinnGen (FinnGen 3) is to deepen our understanding of the genetic factors contributing to disease trajectories, including disease activity and progression. To achieve this, we will leverage genetics and other omics profiling to establish a robust evidence based aimed at:

a) understand which genetically identified targets may be suitable for halting or slowing disease progression,

b) guide the administration of personalised medication,

c) improve treatment responses in treatment resistant patients, or

d) prevent secondary events in specific patient groups.

To facilitate this effort, the FinnGen Steering Committee has prioritised about 10 disease areas and established so-called Disease Task Forces. These Task Forces will bring together expertise from Finnish academia and FinnGen industry partners.

The following Disease Task Forces have been selected as core activities part of FinnGen 3:

  • Inflammatory bowel disease
  • Kidney disease
  • Eye disease
  • Rheumatic disease
  • Pulmonary diseases
  • Alzheimer's disease
  • Metabolic diseases
  • Parkinson's disease

Other areas of interest among partners include:

  • Heart failure
  • Fibrotic diseases
  • Atopic dermatitis
