Data Protection and Security
FinnGen data does not contain personal identifiers
FinnGen utilises the genomic and health data of the study participants. Genomic data is based on DNA samples provided by Finnish biobanks while the health data comes mainly from different national registries. Within the study, all data is coded with sample identifiers and the researchers do not know who the participants are. Our data protection statement provides detailed information on the personal data that is processed, the origins of the personal data, and how it is used in the study.
FinnGen data is stored in an audited data secure environment
The Secondary Data Act and the Social and Health Data Permit Authority Findata have set the conditions for a data secure environment in which permit holders may process data. FinnGen follows these regulations. Our data analysis environment, FinnGen Sandbox, is one of the few certified secure operating environments in Finland. The certificate was granted in spring 2022.
